Interior designers share the design trends they’re loving right now

Two interior designers have shed insight into what they are loving at the moment, and what we can expect to see in homes all around Australia in the months ahead.

Earthy tones

I am loving earthy interior accessories, ones that make you feel you’re on a European holiday or have just come back from an around-the-world trip. To get the look, source items such as over-scale pottery or giant pots, urns, or big rustic-looking vessels. They make great bases for olive trees, which are also very in right now, or fiddle leaf plants.

Statues & silhouettes

Stone or cement busts, head silhouettes and statues are going to be the next big interior trend.  As we are unable to travel, it gives you the feeling of being in a museum or grand castle and, as they are mainly white, grey or black, they can still look minimal in the right setting. For example, on a well-styled shelf or on a stack of designer books on your console table.

Dried florals 

I love dried florals like pampas grass and palm leaves in pretty muted tones. The great thing about dried florals is they last longer than fresh flowers and lots of florists are now creating beautiful arrangements and offering home delivery.

Crystals

I am a big fan of crystals and geodes, which are having a big moment at present, especially quartz clusters or large rose quartz pieces. Crystals not only bring a nice energy to a space, they come in every colour so you can always find one to suit your decor scheme.

Phillip Jeffries Wallpaper

Sophisticated and elegant in design, colour and texture, this wallpaper features a linen background with smart, studded geometric design. Its base weave is essentially fabric so to surround the walls of an entire room or living space will take it to another level to achieve a rich, warm and luxurious effect that has decorative appeal.

Curves

We have been introducing curved elements into many of our interior spaces, especially lately, as they break up those straight edges, square corners and angular lines.

Curved convex walls and ceilings, curved sofas and rounded bench seating provide a human element of feeling embraced or even “hugged” in a room and we regularly incorporate curved walls into an interior space to direct and invite you around a corner or into another room.

We recently came across an exciting product from Zetr who supply trim-less, flush-mounted light switch and GPO faceplates that are stylish and very classy.

These are certainly not a budget option, but worthwhile even if only used in the main living areas of an interior to elevate the level of quality.
