Protect Your Home During Storm Season

Storm season is upon us and as the breeze picks up so too does potential damage to properties. And while we all have the best intentions, preparing for a storm isn’t always on the top of our to-do lists. Here we’ve compiled a few proactive techniques to help you protect your property from damage.

1. Trim tree branches – keep them clear from your home before the storm hits

Tree branches can be picked up by the strong breeze and cause damage to both your own and/or neighbouring properties. While it can be a pain to trim the trees in your yard, it saves you the hassel of having to tidy up an unwarranted mess once the storm passes.

2. Secure loose items in your yard

Just like tree branches, loose items in your yard can cause damage to property. Storing your items inside prior to a storm is an easy way to help keep your property safe.

You also don’t want your loved items to get picked up by the wind and taken who knows where is practically just spreading trash. If left out in the storm, even those $95 outdoor cushions you accidently left out in your patio could end up being a burden someone needs to clean.

3. Prepare an emergency kit

Make sure your emergency kit has a car charger for your phone, that way you’ll continue to have a way to contact others during emergency. See here for other items you should include in your storm kit.

4. Clear leaves from your gutters, down pipes and stormwater drains

Another chore to the list, but just as important as every other. Through keeping your gutters, downpipes and stormwater drains clean, you prevent blocked drains which in turn can prevent leads and damage to the foundations to your home.
